The Pieniny National Park in Slovakia extends over 2125 hectares near the border with Poland, northeast of the High Tatras.

An area with a rich historical and folk artistic heritage, as wel as a distinctive folklore and architecture, it is also exceptional in its memorable scenery,rocky ridges and rich flora and fauna. For the discerning tourist the Pieniny is synonymous with beauty, unspoiled scenery and repose. It is an ideal destination for anglers and kayakers alike, and a paradise for cyclists.

The major landmark of the Zamagurie landscape is the striking rock formation of Tri koruny (Three Crowns, 982 m).

Below this, the river Dunajec has cut into the limestone a narrow gorge with high rock walls. A gentle trip along on the river on a typical "Goral" raft makes for a memorable outing.

Well worth a visit, too, is Cerveny Klastor (The Red Monastery) dating from 1319, a National Cultural Site.
